Crowing cocks

July 25, 2010

Sitting on her living room couch looking through the vast expanse of glass that made up the front room windows of her home, Kimberley’s fingers caressed the amulet of jade that hung from the gold chain around her neck. It comforted her as she reviewed her time with Bill Carstairs.

Bill Carstairs character encased several people, lawyer, businessman, husband, father, drug lord and warlock. Collectively they left a lot of balls to juggle and those distractions interfered with his power.  Ego presented a problem for him as well, not for her.

And while her own little niggling thoughts of guilt over past indiscretions came up occasionally, discipline, the advantage she had been looking for assured her power.

He wanted her to stay longer, she didn’t. Like all witches, home is where the power lies, travel diminishes it. Again discipline won out, she came home. Home to evaluate what she had learned and what she had learned told her caution with this man would be her mantra. As he said, he wanted everything and he would take it any way he could.

His wealth dwarfed hers by hundreds of millions, but his power didn’t and of all the things he coveted it was her power. And the way he acted towards her, even in front of Esperanza bordered on childish. His alpha male strut said he wanted her the way a dog wants a bone, not because it’s hungry, but because it’s there.

Esperanza didn’t fail to notice his actions and from what Kimberley could tell from her probing, she had never seen him act like this. And that told her she was his first witch, he hungered for his own kind.

“You should stay for a while, we have lots of space, right Esperanza” he said.

She nodded her agreement in reply, but Kimberley knew the agreement was simply to placate her husband.

“I loved to, but I have a business to run and a leader can never be too far from the front” she said.

“From what I know of your business, its well managed and the franchise people service your clients very well” he said.

“Now Bill you know if you leave the chickens alone for too long they think they can rule the roost” she said.

“Maybe you just need a rooster to help you out with that” he said.

Kimberley smiled and turning to his wife said “Now isn’t that just like a man Esperanza, thinking crowing cocks can solve anything.”

Esperanza laughed out loud, Bill didn’t, and when she left Esperanza saw her to the door. Her handshake said thank you.

“Kimberley you don’t talk to a man like Bill Carstairs like that” Willie said.

“Willie, Bill Carstairs is my enemy, remember that and don’t you ever question my judgment again” she told him.

He had a headache all the way home.
